Stacey Shook, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA, Director, Co-founder

Dr. Shook, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst – Doctoral Level since 2000, has worked closely with children with autism and their families since 1989. In that time, she has provided direct intervention to children on the autism spectrum, and training to educators, related service personnel, and families. She has conducted multiple research studies in the field of behavior analysis, many of which have been presented at international behavior analysis conferences.

Dr. Shook obtained a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Washington in 1999. During her four years at the University of Washington, she taught and assisted with a variety of Special Education courses. In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Shook served as the Curriculum and Training Coordinator for Project DATA (Developmentally Appropriate Treatment for Autism), a 5-year model demonstration grant authored by Ilene Schwartz, Ph. D., BCBA-D, housed at the University of Washington’s Experimental Education Unit. Project DATA blended the best practices in the fields of early childhood education, early childhood special education, and applied behavior analysis in the provision of intensive educational services and family support for young children with autism.

Since her arrival in Seattle, WA in 1995, Dr. Shook has coordinated intensive behavioral and educational programs for hundreds of children with autism in the area, as well as Oregon, Northern California, Montana, Texas, New Jersey, Vancouver, BC, Jordan, and India. She has worked collaboratively with school districts in the greater Seattle area, providing training to teachers and related service personnel, as well as input and feedback regarding instructional strategies and curriculum adaptation, and behavioral support for learners across the lifespan.

Before moving to Seattle, Dr. Shook served as the clinical coordinator of the Haddon Heights School, the program for children with autism at Bancroft, Inc. Her responsibilities included developing all behavior management programs for the students, training staff and families, and assisting in the development of educational programs.

Dr. Shook obtained a M.Ed. in applied behavior analysis from Temple University in 1995. While at Temple, she served as a behavioral and educational consultant in the West Philadelphia School District for their Head Start programs. In addition, she worked at Children’s Seashore House, both in the BioBehavioral Unit conducting functional analyses of self injurious behavior in children with autism, and in the Pediatric Feeding program with children on the autism spectrum.

From 1992-1993, Dr. Shook worked at The Princeton Child Development Institute, a world-renowned educational facility for children with autism. While employed at P.C.D.I., Dr. Shook gained experience in the development of individualized educational programs for children with autism as well as data collection strategies for the school, home, and community environments.

She received her B.A. in Psychology from West Virginia University in 1992. As an undergraduate, she completed a child development internship at The May Institute, a well-known educational and residential facility for children with autism. She also worked in conjunction with the Quin Curtis Center at West Virginia University and county school districts to develop and train behavioral support projects for kindergarten children with developmental disabilities throughout the state of West Virginia.

Dr. Shook is a full member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International, American Psychological Association (Divisions 25 and 33), Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Washington Association for Behavior Analysis. Dr. Shook is a credentialed practitioner with most Washington insurance carriers, including Premera, Regence, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, and TRICARE. In addition, Dr. Shook is a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in Washington state and a Mental Health Professional under NBA’s DDA licensure.
